Sitting alone
Reading the local daily
Or checking their phone

Bottomless coffee cups
Pulled from a plank shelf
Seem right at place
For men who eat by themselves

If regulars the waitress
Knows their predictable sides
Anticipating their lonely hello
At times their lonelier goodbyes

Eating under diner florescent lights
Before and after dawn's early light
Often feels Kinda nice

The truck driver sitting
At the diner stool
Has perfected his
Uniformed working man cool

Their is a lawyer that always stops
Running a little late
He tells a bad joke
While dancing around the girl with the mop

She laughes at the joke
Then winks at the toothless old man
She always calls pop

Everyone has their favorite spot
If a new guy comes in
There is a chair to adopt

Greeted by a waitress
Pouring bean juice
Meant to inspire
His only ambition
Eggs overeasy and
Buttered white toast

If the eggs are all right
And the waitress worth her tip
On Saturday morning
He will grab a friend
And take him to a booth
Where diner men boast
