Living for another day
To say hey
As the edifices I build
Are eroded by the sands of time
If they all fall down
I really don't seem to mind
I am living for another day
To say hey
Exaggerated importance
As I stare at my stuff
And add to my degrees
I am finding satisfaction
Living for another day
To say hey
I want my land protected
From enemies within and without
The strength we muster
As brothers exchange shouts
Semper Fi desires are met
With another day
To say hey
The happiest of moments
Are spent with the faces in my life
In the simplest and profoundest things
Like giving and receiving advice
And living for another day
To say hey
Playing cards and laughing
In accents made up at kitchen tables
When we get too tired
We watch a movie on the tv cable
And end another day
To say hey
Hugs from children
Who snuggle close and tight
Pull the blankets high
As you tuck them in at night
If I am fortunate to see old age
I hope those I tuck in
Ambition extends
To another day
To say hey
